If you have a dream job but too afraid to apply because you think that you lack knowledge or experience, you can join the Youth Live Program.
Parks and Recreation’s Youth Live Program is a job experience program for young people aged 16-24, who aren’t in school and struggling to find work.
Halifax Regional Municipality’s Youth Live Program is a 24week job and life skill building program for youth with employment barriers. If you are between ages 16-24 and are not employed and not in school, you may be eligible to enter the Youth Live program.
The Youth Live Program helps participants develop job skills, strengthen life skills, and gain hands-on experience working in various operations.
Participants will have scheduled shifts five days a week Monday through Friday. They will receive a training allowance (stipend) based on a 32.5-hour work week, for up to 24 weeks. Aside from cash, they will gain skills that can be useful in the future like customer service, customer management, and warehouse management skills.
Throughout the program, they will also have access to learning sessions such as; leadership training, life skill development; safety in the workplace; identifying one’s skills; job search tools and techniques; and writing resumes, cover letters and interview techniques.
There are more certificates and opportunities in this program. You can check them all out here: https://www.halifax.ca/about-halifax/employment/youth-live-job-experience-program
