It began with Brody Hanson making his caffeinated beverage in his kitchen. Throughout the workday, he keeps himself energized with his beverage but not a big fan of coffee and some energy drinks.
He said that energy drinks contain synthetic ingredients, artificial sweeteners and stimulants in addition to caffeine. And after his wife shared a news story about a guy, same his age, had cardiac events triggered by the multiple stimulants in energy drinks; he was determined to try and create his own beverage.
Hanson started by mixing together the basics; caffeine and water. After developing his recipe, he thought this might just be a product that others would find useful and called it “work water”. He describes it as having a taste of an “elevated white popsicle with notes of coconut,” similar to cream soda. It is lightly sweetened and isn’t carbonated.
Brody went through a year of trial and error, learning what to do and what not to do. Even if he was completely new to the beverage industry, he is proud to have partnerships along the way. They are producing with a company called Craft Coast Canning, which is located just outside of Fredericton.
Work Water had a soft launch in August and is selling through their website and in around 30 stores in town, including Synergy Gym and the Fredericton Co-op.
Now that the Work Water became a success, Hanson is still looking to target larger chain stores but enjoys it to sustain in the local business for now.
