Funds will help President’s Choice Children’s Charity deliver food programs in Nova Scotia.
A recent Loblaw fundraising campaign raised $1.86 million nationally in support of President’s Choice Children’s Charity. The Charity is Canada’s largest charitable provider of school meal programs, reaching 10% of school-age children, and the operators of the Power Full Kids™ program, which combines daily meals and snacks with new food skills education.
Nova Scotians donated more than $145,000 during the two-week campaign, highlighting the incredible generosity in Atlantic Canada. Customers at the Glace Bay Atlantic Superstore donated more than any community in the province, helping the store exceed its fundraising target by 21%. The Truro Atlantic Superstore collected the highest total donations, raising almost $9,500.
In 2021, the Charity reached more than 23,000 children in the province at 121 schools and other program locations, like Chebucto Heights Elementary School right here in Halifax. “We know that hungry kids experience more anxiety, miss more school, and disrupt their class more often.” said Lisa Battistelli, the Charity’s executive director. “A child should never have to carry the burden caused by hunger, so we’re working to reach vulnerable children with food – wherever they’re learning.”
Nova Scotia schools can apply to participate in the charity’s Power Full Kids meal program between May 1st and June 24th . Program requirements and application information can be found on the PCCC website.
