After years of being afraid and anxious of being infected and isolated, we are slowly going back to normal. Parks, restaurants, sports and other establishments are already open. Despite all of these improvements, the virus is still there.
According to Doctors Nova Scotia, here are the things you need to do if you get Covid-19 today.
Testing
As the season changes from cold weather to spring, most of us will experience allergies that have the same symptoms as Covid-19. We can’t really tell the difference between the two unless we take a test. Take a covid test within 48 hours of noticing symptoms even if your symptoms are only mild. Rapid antigen test kits are widely available so don’t hesitate to buy one. When you are still in doubt, you can book a PCR test. While waiting for the PCR result, you should isolate yourself just to make sure you won’t be infecting others.
Register Positive Result
When you tested positive, you should continue isolating and register right away with Public Health’s “Report and Support” screening program. This would help you be eligible for medications and treatments if needed.
Ask if you’re eligible for Paxlovid
The only good thing about today’s Covid-19 season is there are a lot of treatments to reduce severe symptoms other than the vaccine. Call your physician if you have at least one risk factor such as obesity, diabetes, chronic heart or lung disease, and cancer. If you are eligible, you may receive the antiviral medication Paxlovid which has shown to benefit people at highest risk of progression of COVID-19, to reduce the chance of developing severe illness requiring hospitalization.
Wear a mask even if you are at home.
One of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of the virus is still wearing a mask. This way you can protect others from being infected from the Covid-19 virus. Keeping windows open and extraction fans and HEPA filters running will further reduce risk.
