If you are a chess master or a chess enthusiast, this festival is definitely for you!
A City of Halifax official encouraged Chess Nova Scotia to organize a major chess event for 2020 urging the group to dream big. He also shared that chess is a sport whose time has come thus, should make Halifax a part of it.
Chess Nova Scotia (CNS) is registered as a non-profit society in Nova Scotia under the name, Chess Nova Scotia Society with a registration number: #3330426. It aims to promote chess as a recreation and sport for Nova Scotians of all ages. Supporting learning, competition, and enjoyment of the game of chess through programs, clubs, tournaments, and special projects is their main mission.
With this, they have organized Pawn Wise: The Atlantic All-Ages Chess Festival 2020. Choosing the name Pawn Wise highlights the fact that chess is an enjoyable, all-ages, lifelong activity for cognitive wellbeing.

The 11th Canadian Seniors Chess Championship will be the first event to be held in the Maritimes. For amateurs and other non-pro players, you can join the 1st Nova Scotia Mayflower Open.
