Doing Road Trips with Healthy Snacks!

For two years, most of us were deprived of going outside. With the easing of health protocols, a lot of us goes to beaches, hikes, and live shows. And we often want to go to places as far as possible! With long road trips, food is our friend! Here are some tips from Doctors Nova Scotia in preparing healthy foods for your road trip!

Perfect pairings
Everything is better in pairs! When preparing snacks try also to be creative while considering what’s good in your mouth when eaten together. You can try grapes and cheese cube;, slices of bell pepper with hummus; or some apple wedges with peanut butter. You can also try pickle spears wrapped in slices of deli turkey. The more contrasting the flavours and textures are, the more interesting your snack be!

Keep your cool
If you have a lot of fresh fruits, you should get a cooler to keep them from being spoiled. Stack ice packs on your cooler to keep them fresh and cool! With warmer weather, have your cool drinks in a separate cooler. Try using insulated water bottles to keep your drinks chilled.

Get cracking
Try choosing snacks with satisfying and environmentally friendly packaging. You can also add crackers for a change of flavour. The carbs will also keep you satisfied for a long period.

Bottoms up
There are a lot of refreshments you can choose from, but it would be better if you refill them at your homes. You can also try home-made fruit juices for a tastier and healthier drink.

Hit the bars
Road trip foods would be boring without at sweet treats! You can bring chocolates but try to make you own granola bars. There are a number of delicious and healthy recipes that uses that uses whole grains, nuts, dried fruits and natural sugars.

Last resorts
If your snacks were not enough due to some unforeseen delays, you can stop-by a convenience store to refill. There are stores with fresh fruits, nuts, yogurts, and granola bars. You can check a snack’s packaging and choose those that have fewer ingredients, low sodium content, and high fibre and protein.

What are you waiting for? Let’s hit the road!
