The youth of today are not silent. They are proactive, aggressive, they want change. They are active in the community in terms of public service, voluntary works and other events or programs that enables them to help in any way.
The Halifax Youth Community Development Program supports these initiatives. They believe in the power and potential of youth to develop and implement their own solutions to community challenges. This is seen in their mission that is to support youth to create positive change the provision of skills development, such as workshops & engagements; and capacity buildings through directly working with the youth in making things happen!
One of the programs of the Youth Community Development is the implementation of The Youth Services Plan. This created to ensure that the municipal programs and services are meeting the needs of our youth. It supports the decision-making process of how to address relevant issues that directly or indirectly affect the youth.
They also support the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). YAC was created to make sure youth in our communities have a voice at Regional Council. The committee will advise council on how municipal policies, programs, and services affect youth, and challenge the areas where we can do better.
They also created a booklet on how to initiate change in the community. This helps the youth who wanted to help or make a change but don’t have the concrete idea on how to start. It contains four activities that will generate ideas to help guide them as they create a plan.
This is a planning document and the actions suggested in the document are intended for future use when public health directives have changed. During your planning process, please follow public health guidelines.
