Have you ever wondered what local goods are made on farms in Nova Scotia? Are your kids interested in learning about the origins of their food? Open Farm Day gives Nova Scotians the chance to visit nearby farms to share experiences, ask questions, participate, and get to know the farmers.

The Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture (NSFA) has been the voice of Nova Scotia farmers since 1895. They are representing the interests of over 90% of all agricultural production across the province. They support farm families and businesses through lobby and advocacy efforts and the delivery of programs and services. They monitor and review trends, legislations and programs that impact the industry. They also actively lobby and advocate for changes and improvements to legislation, programs and public policy. They want to make sure that their member’s voices are represented and heard that is why they work closely with their members and a wide variety of stakeholders.

In order to help connect Nova Scotian to local farmers, NSFA initiated the development of various events such as the Meet your Farmer, Canada’s Agriculture Day and Open Farm Day. This is to create prosperous communities that will support farm families now and for many future generations.

This year, the Atlantic Open Farm Day will take place on Sunday, September 18, 2022 in Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and New Brunswick. The event will be held both face-to-face and online. The hybrid event this year will let farms participate in the manner that best fits them, taking into account any provincial COVID-19 restrictions. Farm life may look different this year than it did last. Please abide by all host farm instructions.

Come and join the others when farms, ranches, and agri-tourism operators open their gates and invite visitors to share in local stories, see on-farm demonstrations and purchase locally grown and produced products.
