As Summer comes to a close and we head into the beginning of Fall, I want to wish all the students and families a happy and healthy Back to School. I look forward to attending all the Fall Events in the riding. If you have a community event happening this fall, please reach out to my office and let us know.
SLOW DOWN SIGNS
We are beginning our fall drive of “Slow Down” signs for our neighborhoods. I have many signs in stock and if you would like one for your property, please call the office. We receive many calls about speeding in Clayton Park West. Studies have shown placing three consecutive signs within short distances of each other can significantly reduce the number of speeding drivers.
WALK TO SCHOOL
As many of you know, I have been working to promote safe and active transportation to and from our schools. That is why I am excited to announce that we are beginning a Walk To School Initiative with Rockingham School and Park West School. This will be a group of students, led by adult/older youth volunteers who regularly walk to school together. It provides supervision, safety in numbers, physical activity, a social atmosphere, and fun on the way to school. A Walk to School program is also a tried-and-true means to lessen traffic congestion and air pollution around the school grounds, making it easier for everyone at drop-off and pick up times. To learn more you can email rockinghamwalktoschool@ gmail.com or parkwestwalktoschool@gmail.com.
This fall we will be holding a planning meeting for interested families and potential volunteers. This will help us develop safe routes that best support families that would like to walk.
