from The Rotary Club of Halifax North West
Welcome to the monthly newsletter from the Rotary Club of Halifax North West, where we share the club’s news with the community we serve. This issue highlights our Christmas Wish Project, extols the virtues of the Rotary Foundation and reminds us of the opportunity to honour our veterans.
It’s that time of year when our thoughts turn to Christmas. For most people, it’s an occasion to celebrate our good fortunes, spend time with family and to exchange gifts. But for many, especially in the wake of the COVID pandemic, hurricane Fiona and raging inflation, Christmas can be an emotional and financial challenge.
As in previous years, we are teaming up with the Joseph Howe Atlantic Superstore and launching our popular Christmas Wishes campaign to brighten a few hearts at Christmas time. The Superstore is kindly providing space for the Christmas Wish tree, which will be “decorated” with individual Christmas wishes representing local disadvantaged individuals. Anyone wanting to grant a wish can select any of the decorations on the tree, and purchase the desired item and taking it to the Customer Service counter. Rotary “elves” will pick up the purchased items and deliver them to community-minded organizations for distribution to deserving individuals.
The campaign runs from 12 November to 15 December. Please help us spread the joy and share the feeling of giving with Rotarians!
Another way to give to those who are less fortunate is to support the Rotary Foundation. For the 14th year in a row, the Rotary Foundation has been awarded the highest rating from Charity Navigator, a charity assessment organization. Since it was founded over 100 years ago the Foundation has spent over $4 billion globally on life-changing, sustainable projects on education, clean water, peace and ending polio. You too can donate to the Foundation and help make the world a better place. Go to www.rotary.org/donate and follow the prompts. click on the “Continue as a Guest” box at the bottom of the page.
Finally, a reminder that Remembrance Day, 11 November, is approaching. It’s the day when we honor those who have given of themselves to protect our freedoms. We hope you will visit a local cenotaph to pay your respects to those who served and continue to serve.
