from The Rotary Club of Halifax North West
Welcome to the monthly newsletter from the Rotary Club of Halifax North West, where we share the club’s news with the community we serve. This issue highlights one of Rotary’s monthly themes, Vocational Service. We are also promoting our exciting Adventure Club fundraiser.
January is Rotary’s Vocational Service month. Rotary membership is made up of ordinary people doing extraordinary things in their communities, both local and internationally. The members of all 33,000+ clubs around the world are fellow workers, neighbours and friends who generally keep a low profile, which masks their passion for giving of themselves for the greater good. When inducted into Rotary, every member is encouraged and expected to live by the Four-Way-Test as part of their commitment to Service Above Self. In everything Rotarians think say or do within Rotary and in their personal and professional lives they are encouraged to apply the Four-Way Test by asking:
• Is it the TRUTH?
• Is it FAIR to all concerned?
• Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
• Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Vocational service is at the core of Rotary, embedded in its history, present and future. It calls on us to foster high ethical standards in business, recognize the value of all occupations, and dignify our occupations as an opportunity to serve our communities. By including men and women from diverse professions and backgrounds, Rotary recognizes the importance of all skills and occupations and encourages our members to leverage their skills and expertise to enhance communities. We are about to embark on our second year with our very successful fundraiser – The Rotary Adventure Club. For a $100 yearly membership, members get to win trips and we get to give back to deserving charities in our community. The first of 6 draws for fabulous trips in 2023 is in early February, along with 4 draws for $100 consolation prizes. Each trip comes with $500 spending money, and winners who prefer not to travel can claim 85% of the value of the trip. 2023 trips are to Niagara Falls, Las Vegas, Cabo San Lucas, New York and a sailing holiday in Croatia. If you are an avid traveler or if you know someone who is, this is a great “post COVID” high-odds opportunity. For more information, go to https// rotaryadventureclub.ca
