Last month I shared some background information related to the Probus Club. This month I will focus on the Probus Club Halifax, a social club for retired professional men and women.
On November 1, 2022, the club celebrated its 23rd anniversary. Most of our club members are in their mid-seventies.
During our December meeting, the club celebrated a member’s one hundredth birthday. Our monthly meetings are held at the Fairview Legion,50 Hillcrest St, Halifax at 10 a.m. on the third Thursday of every month except for July and August when the club takes a summer break. The doors open at 9:30 a.m. and tea, coffee, water and cookies are available. The refreshments are provided courtesy of the Berkeley Retirement Living Halifax.
The Program Committee is constantly seeking interesting guest speakers for our monthly meetings. Prior to the COVID pandemic, the club held its December and June meetings at the Ashburn Golf Club. These activities have been put on hold for now.
Like most Probus Clubs across Canada and the world, our club membership dropped due to COVID. We went from having 143 club members to our current membership of 77. We are always looking to add to our membership so do plan on attending a monthly meeting. Guests are introduced to the group at the beginning of each meeting.
Make it your New Year’s Resolution to join us in 2023. Refer to the Upcoming Community Events section for information related to this month’s guest speaker.
