The Probus Club of Cobequid is a social club for retired professionals and retired business owners, both men and women. The club began about 5 years ago, and we have 29 members at present. Ages range from the 60s to 80s. Our meetings consist of Meet and Greet with coffee and tea at 9:30 am (optional), followed by a presentation by an interesting guest speaker at 10 am. This is followed by a 5-10 minute business meeting. We meet the 2 nd Thursday of each month (excluding July and August), at the Church Hall of St John the Evangelist, 934 Old Sackville Road in Middle Sackville.
We have had a wide variety of guest speakers, such as Military History of both World Wars, Memory Loss and an Aging Population, CNIB Technical Tools, Nova Scotia Archaeology, The Sinking of the SS Atlantic off Prospect in 1873, a virtual presentation of the Sable Island National Park, Mapping Canada’s Oceans, China’s Three Gorges Dam, the History of Inventors and Inventions in Canada. Our presentation for Feb 9 will be on Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID). Guests are welcome to come and try us out.
