Here are some useful travel tips if you are considering travelling.
1) Ageism and car rentals. Hovering around the age 70 mark? Hoping to rent a car in Europe? You may be the victim of ageism at car rental companies. Be sure to check the location of your rental, not their corporate head office to see if there are restrictions due to your age. Some companies require letters from your doctor and/or ophthalmologist to guarantee your good health.
2) Because Covid is a “known risk” many insurance companies do not offer Trip Interruption and Cancellation insurance for coverage. Check with me because we work with a company that DOES offer TI and TC coverage for Covid. Some restrictions apply.
3) Booking a flight with a connection? Connecting time is no fun but in these post Covid times, always better to allow additional time of 3 hours – more, if the airport is a busy one (Pearson, Heathrow)
4) Did you know that smoking has recently been banned in public places including beaches in Mexico?
Everyone has heard about “downsouth” vacations being cancelled in different parts of Canada, including the Maritimes from certain areas.
Covid is causing a shortage of pilots to fly planes. This is likely to be a short-term problem, but doesn’t help those who are preparing for – or hoping to book – a getaway down south over the next few months. Fingers crossed! We can help.
However, for those considering a bucket-list trip like a river cruise, which ought to be booked a year in advance, those problems are very likely to have disappeared by that time.
Many river cruise companies are offering specials like free or lowcost airfare or complimentary pre and post cruise tours which can save travelers up to $3000 of their total package cost. Since these specials change regularly, it is important to check with me, if an upcoming river cruise is on your bucket list.
Coach tours: the concept of a coach tour has changed greatly over the past decade and it can now be a very enjoyable – even relaxing – form of touring. Choose a tour that includes multiple days in towns and later start hours in the morning for a wonderful way to visit Italy, Greece or another European country.
