Job experience is required, right? Finding it difficult to get a job that matters? You could be qualified to take part in the Youth WORX Program if you’re between the ages of 16 and 24.
The Halifax Regional Municipality’s Youth Worx Program, formerly known as Youth Live, provides 24 weeks of paid job training and life skill development to youth who are having trouble finding employment. Participants acquire practical work experience while operating the Youth Worx Café at the Sackville Sports Stadium while in our encouraging environment.
On the stadium’s main level, the Youth Worx Café—powered by Youth Worx—is currently operational. The Café opens every day at 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and offers freshly made popcorn, as well as sandwiches, pizza, bagels, cinnamon buns, espressos, different lattes, and Java Blend coffee.
About the Program
Participants will have a 5-day scheduled shifts from Monday to Friday. They will also be receiving an allowance based on a 32.5-hour work week.
Throughout the program, you will have access to learning sessions such as leadership training; life skill development; safety in the workplace; identifying your skills; job search tools and techniques; writing resumes and many more!
There are other certifications you can receive through this program:
Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS)
This is a thorough program that provides details on hazardous materials intended for use, handling, or storage in Canadian workplaces.
First Aid Training
The Emergency First Aid Certificate teaches how to give sick or injured people basic, urgent assistance. You will learn how to assess a patient’s condition’s seriousness and use safe intervention techniques when giving them emergency support through a combination of classroom education, practical application, and demonstration.
Food Safety Certificate
All types of food handlers are given what is known as a Food Handler Certificate (chefs, servers, dishwashers, food business owners, etc.). One of the greatest methods to acquire the essential knowledge and abilities needed to handle food safely at home or in a food service establishment like a restaurant or café is through food safety training.
