The goal of the Probus organization is to provide Fellowship, Friendship and Fun for men and women who have retired and want to maintain a social network with others who have similar interests. There are 250 Canadian clubs with five clubs located within Nova Scotia. The purpose of Probus Clubs is to encourage healthy minds and bodies and socializing with other retirees in the community.
Clubs generally meet once a month in the morning to enjoy relaxed social time with coffee and tea, retain and renew old friendships, make new friends and listen to an eclectic mix of interesting guest speakers. Some clubs arrange lunch following the meeting which provides an opportunity to engage in conversations with club members. Between monthly meetings club members may visit local sites of interest. The Halifax Club has visited many interesting places including the Africville Museum, the EHS Medical Communication Centre and the Halifax Convention Centre. These outings allow members to explore their community while spending time getting to know club members.
As well, members may participate in interest group activities. The list of activities differs from each club and is based on the preferences of club members. Once again, these member group interest activities provide club members with a chance to develop friendships. By joining Probus you will find a wealth of new experiences and an expanded social network. The following are the email addresses for the Halifax, Dartmouth and Cobequid (Sackville and Bedford areas) clubs: probusclubhlfx@gmail. com; probus.dartmouth@gmail. com; probusclubcobequid@gmail. com Don’t forget that once you join a Probus Club, you are eligible for a free membership to Probus Canada (www. probuscanada.ca) and Probus Global (www.probus.org).
