Exceptional women from all areas of life are honored on the Riva Spatz Women’s Wall of Honor. Each commemorative leaf on the wall is named in honor of a woman who has inspired others through her dedication to her family, community, or career.
The Wall, the only one of its kind in Canada, symbolizes a dedication to the support and growth of women everywhere.
Every woman honored with a leaf has the chance to be featured on this platform with an inspirational story and a photo. The experience is open to participants from across the globe.
Mount Saint Vincent University honored a new set of honorees who had just been added to the Riva Spatz Women’s Wall of Honour on Wednesday, June 28, 2023.
The entire installation bears Riva’s name, the late mother of principal donor Jim Spatz. When Riva was a young woman, her parents sent her and her younger sister and brother to join a partisan group and fight for resistance against the Nazis. As a result, Riva and her siblings were able to survive the Holocaust.
One of the honorees this year was former First Lady Michelle Obama, who will be the featured speaker at an event this fall that MSVU is proud to support in collaboration with the Nova Scotia Co-operative Council, East Coast Credit Unions, and other Atlantic organizations. Other honorees this year included a number of women leaders in politics, a number of community leaders, faculty, staff, and alumni from MSVU.
The virtual Women’s Wall of Honour, a platform that offers the chance to share the stories of the women honored and invites others from all over the world to partake in the experience, also features honorees as part of this special homage.
A leaf pin is presented to each of the ladies honored on the WWOH to wear. The wall and its significance can be carried with honorees by means of the leaf pin. A group of cherished women get together under the pin.
The Margaret Norrie McCain Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Research at MSVU, which is appropriately the only structure on a Canadian university campus devoted to honouring the accomplishments of women, is next to the WWOH.
