from The Rotary Club of Halifax North West
Welcome to the monthly newsletter from the Rotary Club of Halifax Northwest, where we share the club’s news with the community we serve. This issue tells you all you wanted to know about membership but were afraid to ask.
Quick Facts
There are about 1.2 million Rotary members, in 33,000 clubs, in 200 countries around the world. But don’t be daunted by these figures. If you are a member of a Rotary Club, it feels like you are in a family – family of likeminded people who want to do good and give back to the community.
What Rotary is All About
• Avenues of Service – the types of service in which we are encouraged to get involved:
• Community Service – through projects and activities
• International Service – Rotary’s global humanitarian reach
• New Generation Service – youth leadership and development through projects and activities
• Vocational Service – serve others through our vocations
• Club Service – effective functioning of the club
The Payoff
As a member of Rotary you will:
• Experience reward & satisfaction from service – locally & internationally – bring your passions and ideas to the Club.
• Learn about your community and issues around the world.
• Develop leadership & organizational skills.
• Choose from a wide range of projects to participate in – something for everyone.
• Have instant connections when you travel – you will be welcomed at meetings around the world!
• Benefit from a business and social network… establish new contacts and make new friends.
The Commitment
As a member of Rotary you should:
• Be engaged – attendance is NOT compulsory! We would rather have you contribute your time and talents than feel obliged to show up at all lunches! That said, we have great guest speakers – and we’re a friendly group!
•Participate in committees, projects, events in whatever ways you choose.
• Learn and offer leadership through service.
• Accept and be tolerant of people of diverse communities.
• Enrich the Club with your talents, knowledge & enthusiasm – and have fun in the process!
