By Councillor Iona Stoddard

As we step into November, we take time and remember our veterans and military service people who gave their lives. I will be at the Japanese War Memorial in Clayton Park to place a wreath on behalf of District 12 for Remembrance Day, I hope to see you there to commemorate their service and sacrifice.

TRANSIT PAYMENT APP LAUNCHES
I’m so pleased that the new mobile fare payment app for Transit is on track to launch this month! HFXGO allows customers to purchase and use tickets and passes from the convenience of their smartphones.

HFXGO is a secure, easy to use mobile fare payment app that allows Halifax Transit customers to purchase and activate tickets and passes directly from their smartphones or online. Once you have your pass, just show it to the Operator or ferry security staff prior to boarding. Passengers can still purchase paper tickets and passes at a retail partner or use cash fare. To learn more, visit https://www.halifax.ca/transportation/halifax-transit/fares-tickets-passes/hfxgo.

2023 VOLUNTEER CONFERENCE
Our volunteers are what make our municipality great! Join us for the municipality’s 2023 Volunteer Conference on Friday, November 17 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Dartmouth.

The conference is an opportunity for volunteers to connect, celebrate, and learn relevant skills. Delegates will participate in two training workshops, networking activities, enjoy a keynote speech and seated meal.

Registration will remain open until Sunday, November 12. For more information, including a complete schedule, visit https://www.halifax.ca/about-halifax/volunteering/volunteer-conference

ACCESSIBILITY TOWN HALL
Join us for the Accessibility Advisory Committee’s Annual Town Hall on November 21 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in person at the Halifax Central Library or online.

The Town Hall is an opportunity for our staff to provide updates to the community on current accessibility initiatives and receive questions, feedback, and input from residents.

Join us to learn more and provide your feedback! See our website for details.

VOLUNTEER WITH OUR BOARDS AND COMMITTEES
We are seeking volunteers to serve on municipal boards, committees, and commissions. The Western Common Advisory Committee needs volunteers – the committee reviews public recreation, wilderness and heritage protection, business park development and the hosting of the Otter Lake Solid Waste Resource Facility for the Western Common. For more information and to apply, visit halifax. ca/serve.

The best way to contact me is at iona. stoddard@halifax.ca or 902-240-7926. Let us work together and talk with each other, to build a brighter future for District 12 and all of HRM!
