Every year on the third Monday in February, we commemorate Nova Scotia Heritage Day, a chance to remember our rich history and to pay tribute to the extraordinary individuals, locations, and occasions that have shaped this province’s distinctive legacy.
William Hall is the 2024 Heritage Day Honoree. Among his many accomplishments, he was the first Black person, the first resident of Nova Scotia, and the third Canadian to be awarded the Victoria Cross, the British Empire’s highest decoration for valor.
This annual celebration is a great way for families to get together, share knowledge, and honor the varied heritage that helps to define Nova Scotia’s character.
