Celebrating Nova Scotia’s Rich Heritage: Family-Friendly Events for Heritage Day
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Every year on the third Monday in February, we commemorate Nova Scotia Heritage Day, a chance to remember our rich history and to pay tribute to the extraordinary individuals, locations, and occasions that have shaped this province’s distinctive legacy.

William Hall is the 2024 Heritage Day Honoree. Among his many accomplishments, he was the first Black person, the first resident of Nova Scotia, and the third Canadian to be awarded the Victoria Cross, the British Empire’s highest decoration for valor.

This annual celebration is a great way for families to get together, share knowledge, and honor the varied heritage that helps to define Nova Scotia’s character.

Sackville Snow Days Festival
Set your calendars for February 16–19, 2024, as Sackville Snow Days will be back with a bang! This yearly event, which is organized by the Sackville Business Association, transforms the long weekend in February into a winter celebration.

Come enjoy a fun-filled weekend filled with events created by numerous community groups, organizations, companies, and volunteers across Sackville. Enjoy curling, snowshoeing, skating, and sledding—there’s something for everyone. Enter competitions, take in live performances, eat a lot of pancakes, watch movies on a large screen, and exercise your creativity by decorating cookies, going on a paint night, and creating butter—an event that is truly unique. Don’t forget to take in the fireworks display!

Ataraxy Farm Family Fun Day
Do you want to unwind, re-establish your ground, or flee from your worries? Visit Ataraxy Farm today. Many people who arrive stressed out depart feeling at ease. This isn’t your typical farm. Helping others is the primary objective of this mental health therapy farm. As a therapeutic farm, Ataraxy Farm was established in 2013 to assist veterans suffering from PTSD related to their military service. Others with mental health concerns can now access it.

On Heritage Day this year, Atarxy Farm will host its own Family Fun Day! Visit the farm to observe the animals, have a pony ride, decorate some cookies in the shape of goats, and sip on a hot beverage.

Meet Your Farmer Day
Meet Your Farmer will be at Cole Harbour Place on Monday, February 19, 2024, in honor of Heritage Day! The whole family is going to have a great time! There are many displays to explore, a colouring station, and farm bingo! This is a fantastic opportunity to talk with Nova Scotian farmers and learn about food and farming!

Families are urged to make early plans for Heritage Day by making the most of the wide range of events and activities that are offered around Nova Scotia. Heritage Day is a fantastic chance to celebrate, educate yourself, and make lifelong memories with loved ones against the backdrop of Nova Scotia’s rich and illustrious past, whether you’ve lived here your entire life or are a first-time visitor.
