The provincial theme for African Heritage Month this year is “Our Smiles, Our Joy, Our Resilience as African Nova Scotians,” which highlights the tenacity that people of African descent have shown over the generations in our province. It’s been said that our grins have the power to communicate emotions, like joy and resiliency. We commemorate our culture, tradition, and amazing perseverance throughout African tradition Month.
The topic also corresponds with the final year of the United Nations’ International Decade for People of African Descent (DPAD) 2015-2024. DPAD seeks to increase awareness and the movement toward full inclusion in all spheres of society while fortifying international collaboration in favor of individuals of African origin.
