If you are a retiree and haven’t already joined a Probus Club, now may be the time to do so. The month of February is always a good time to make changes to one’s social life. Probus Canada has 35,000 individuals who have chosen to join one of the 4,000 Probus clubs around the world meeting regularly to provide fellowship and camaraderie.
Within Canada, there are 250 clubs to choose from. For those readers who are not familiar with the Probus organization, it is a volunteer-based, non-profit, nonpolitical, non-sectarian fellowship organization. Our clubs are all about encouraging healthy minds and bodies and socializing with other retirees in the community. As a Probus club member, you are eligible to join Probus Global free of charge. However, you do have to go to the Probus Global website to register to become a member. If you are a Probus club member who has yet to register, go to www.probusglobal.org to do so.
Probus Global continues to expand with 1200 members from 18 countries. If you are planning an international trip this year, why not attend a Probus club meeting in the country you will be visiting? Club members who have done this report being warmly welcomed. Most Probus clubs are available for your enjoyment and participation ten months of the year as there are no meetings scheduled for the months of July and August. Clubs generally meet once a month in the morning to enjoy relaxed social time with tea or coffee, retain and renew old friendships, make new friends, and listen to an interesting guest speaker. You can be involved in the club as much or as little as you wish, which is ideal for those retirees who like to travel at various times of the year.
Choose a club and attend a meeting as a guest to assess whether you feel comfortable with that particular group. You will be greeted warmly, introduced to the group as well as have the opportunity to listen to that month’s guest speaker. You may be invited to purchase a lunch ticket or join the group for lunch at a nearby pub. The following are the email addresses for the Halifax, Dartmouth and Cobequid (Bedford and Sackville) clubs: probusclubhlfx@gmail.com; probus.dartmouth@gmail.com; and probusclubcobequid@gmail.com. Feel free to drop-in at one of our meetings. We would enjoy meeting you.
