VON CAPABLE PROGRAM
Last week I became aware of a VON program called CAPABLE – Community Aging in Place, Advance Better Living for Elders. The program creates a plan to keep the person in their home and will do minor work like bathroom grab bars, and extra handrails, change the flooring, and install brighter lighting. They do not do large renovations or ramps but can help navigate the various programs that may be available for that type of work.
The next pilot intake for the program will be postal codes B3R, B3S and B3J. They will take the first 100 people on a first come first serve basis for the pilot. They have a physiotherapist, a registered nurse, and a handy person who will assess the person(s) in the home/rental. You can reach them at 1-888-925-6101 or capablens@von.ca.
