from The Rotary Club of Halifax North West
Welcome to the monthly newsletter from the Rotary Club of Halifax Northwest, where we share the club’s news with the community we serve. This issue tells you what it means to be a Rotarian – everything you wanted to know but were afraid to ask!
WHAT ROTARY IS ALL ABOUT
• Promoting Peace – we train adults and young leaders to prevent and mediate conflict and help refugees who have fled dangerous areas.
• Fighting Disease – we improve and expand access to low-cost and free health care in developing areas.
• Providing Clean Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene – we support local solutions to bring clean water, sanitation, and hygiene to more people every day.
• Saving Mothers and Children – we expand access to quality care, so mothers and their children can live and grow stronger.
• Supporting Education – we strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy.
• Growing Local Economies – we strengthen local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women, in impoverished communities.
• Protecting the Environment – we empower communities to access grants and other resources, embrace local solutions, and spur innovation in an effort to address the causes and reduce the effects of climate change and environmental degradation.
THE PAYOFF
As a member of Rotary you will:
• Experience reward & satisfaction from service – bring your passions and ideas to the Club.
• Learn about your community and issues around the world.
• Develop leadership & organizational skills.
• Choose from a wide range of projects to participate in.
• Benefit from a business and social network… establish new contacts and make new friends.
THE COMMITMENT
As a member of Rotary you should:
• Be engaged – attendance is NOT compulsory! We would rather have you contribute your time and talents than feel obliged to show up at all lunches! That said, we have great guest speakers – and we’re a friendly group!
• Participate in committees, projects, events in whatever ways you choose.
• Learn and offer leadership through service. • Accept and be tolerant of people of diverse communities.
• Enrich the Club with your talents, knowledge & enthusiasm – and have fun in the process!
