Canada Day is an opportunity to consider what it means to be Canadian, to express our pride, and to celebrate in our own unique ways. As many as there are Canadians, so too are these expressions of pride.
Canada Day celebrates the diversity, depth, and contributions of our people—but most importantly, our land. Since 1868, July 1st has been a time for Canadians of various backgrounds to get together.
This guide will walk you through the best ways to celebrate Canada Day in HRM, whether you’re a local or a visitor.
Mawio’mi on the Halifax Waterfront
Together, let’s celebrate KANA’TA Canada Day by starting the day with our elders’ traditional welcome and blessing. We begin with music by Joe Henry and other artists that is influenced by the Mi’kmaq people. After a cultural demonstration, take in the energizing rhythms of native drums and be moved by the modern and traditional Mi’kmaq dancers.
Canada Day Fireworks
The Canada Day fireworks will be back for the first time since 2019, thanks to the support from the Canadian Heritage! The Halifax Waterfront Foundation Wharf stage and the Dartmouth Ferry Terminal Park stage will have the best views. Enjoy live entertainment culminating in a spectacular fireworks display!
Bedford Days Celebration
Join the fun at various locations in Bedford from June 22 to July 1 for the Bedford Days! This is a 10-day long festival that delivers family friendly activities and events that celebrate cultural diversity and good old-fashioned fun!
Canada Day Drumming Celebration
The annual Canada Day Drumming Celebration (CDDC) is hosted by Legacy 150 Celebrations Society, a Vancouver-based non-profit organization with federal and provincial registration. Through the use of percussion arts, one of the oldest and most popular art forms in the world, CDDC aims to strengthen civic engagement, foster patriotism, and deepen intercultural understanding.
The Canada Day Drumming Celebration is held in the Dartmouth Ferry Terminal Park from 12:30 to 4 pm.
Sackville Patriot Days
