Are you retired and wondering what to do with your free time? Why not join a Probus Club? Probus clubs are organizations for retired men and women who want to maintain a social network with others who have similar interests. Today, there are 4,000 Probus Clubs worldwide with 250 clubs within Canada and five clubs located within Nova Scotia.
Probus clubs are fellowship organizations, not service organizations, non-sectarian and non-political. Clubs are formed to provide social events and schedule speakers to enhance life-long learning opportunities. Many clubs have formed smaller interest groups for sports, entertainment, bridge playing, travel, computers etc. The variety of interest groups evolve from the interests of the club’s membership. Organized outings are also provided to visit local sites of interest.
There is a yearly nominal fee required to join the club. However, members are not required to attend a minimum number of meetings.
Once you join a Probus Club, you are eligible for a free membership to Probus Canada (www.probuscanada.ca) and Probus Global (www.probus.org). To join Probus Global, go to their website and register to become a member. Membership will give you access to worldwide chat groups, a photography group as well as an opportunity to attend Probus Global meetings. If you are a world traveller, you can make contact with a Probus Club member in the city where you will be visiting.
As you can see, there are many benefits to joining a Probus Club. Why not give it a try? Attend a club’s monthly meeting as a guest to assess whether or not you would like to join this organization.
