The onset of shorter days and cooler nights signals the beginning of fall and winter, when you should start planning to keep your house cozy and warm. It’s a great idea to finish up those home improvement projects before the chill of winter sets in as the crisp autumn air settles in. In addition to making sure your house is ready for the winter, taking on these projects now will enable you to enjoy the coziness and warmth of your renovated area. Before it becomes too chilly, consider completing these home renovations.

Perform a roof inspection and repair loose shingles
Get an expert to inspect your roof to make sure the shingles are still in place. Additionally, make sure that no leaves or branches are clogging your gutters or downspouts. To prevent leaks or damage, glue any loose tiles back on the roof. Many neighbourhood hardware stores, such as The Home Depot Canada, offer installation services to assist if your roof needs to be fixed. Plan the task before the temperature drops too much.

Turn off exterior faucets
To avoid bursts, turn off all outside faucets and empty the water from outdoor hoses, pipelines, valves, and sprinkler heads. Additionally, you want to think about adding frost-proof faucets.

Install heating cables
You can prevent long-term damage from freezing and ice dam build-up by using roof heating cables. Make sure your roof and eavestroughs are completely clean before attaching the cables. Install roof cable clamps in a crosshatch design. Lastly, link the power supply and firmly fasten your heating cable to the clips.

Clean gutters and add gutter guards
In order to avoid ice buildup on your roof and damage to your foundation, clean gutters make it easy for water to drain from your rooftop and away from your house. One excellent method to prevent leaves and other debris from accumulating in your gutters is to install gutter guards.

Weatherstrip your windows and doors
Another excellent method to keep the cold out is to weatherstrip your doors and windows. Apply some water to your hand and run it along the window sill or door seam to see where weatherstripping is needed. Your hand’s dampness will aid in your ability to sense any approaching drafts. Adhesive-backed insulating foam and door sweeps are two more excellent draft excluders.

By starting these home improvement work early, you can make sure your house is efficient and pleasant throughout the cold season. Plus, when winter weather approaches, you won’t have to deal with the anxiety and rush of last-minute repairs.
