Hello Fairview Clayton Park Residents, As fall settles in, I’d like to share updates on the recent legislative sitting and upcoming community events.
The legislature recently wrapped up after a short ten-day session, but that didn’t stop our party from standing up for Nova Scotians. We asked the government 211 questions on issues like the hidden doctor waitlist, the housing crisis, and rising costs of living. Unfortunately, clear answers were lacking, but we continue to keep pushing for and making suggestions for solutions.
We also tabled 11 important bills. These include the HST Reduction Act, which would lower the HST to 13%, and the Seniors Care Improvement Act, which would double the Seniors Care Grant to $1500 and expand its eligibility. I also introduced the Heating Rebate Program Increase Act to double the heating rebate to $1,000, providing relief to those facing higher energy bills and a piece of legislation that would have the provincial government provide school supplies for all students in the province. At a time when cost of living is at its highest, families and individuals need as much help as they can to get through these tough times.
In addition, while a new junior high school has been announced on Radcliffe Drive, current catchment rules mean that no Fairview students will attend. I will keep advocating to the Minister for the new school promised to us in 2018, as this remains a critical need.
Though the fall sitting has ended, my work continues. I’ve been door-knocking throughout our community, having meaningful conversations with many of you. I look forward to continuing this throughout the fall.
I look forward to seeing many of you at these events and on your doorsteps. Let’s keep working together to make Fairview Clayton Park a great place to live.
Warm regards,
Patricia Arab
