Spooky season has rolled around once again. Along with the crisper air and vibrant autumn leaves, many of you have begun to plan your annual trip to the valley for classic fall activities such as; corn mazes, pumpkin patches, and apple picking! I’m just here to remind you that the valley offers so much more than just a scenic backdrop; it is brimming with hidden adventures awaiting to be discovered by everyone. I recently enjoyed a two-night stay near the end of the summer and I’m already counting down the days until I get to go back. That’s why this month’s column is dedicated to all the exciting and fun things you can do in the valley!
First off, if you’re planning on an overnight stay, consider booking an Airbnb or a local inn. While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with hotels or motels, I personally love the small-town charm of the valley and, and these options tend to capture that vibe a bit better. If you ever find yourself feeling peckish, I highly recommend visiting Johnny’s Cookhouse and Ice Cream Shop in Berwick. They’re most famous for their burgers but they also serve milkshakes, ice cream, and more.
I was even able to get a plain beef patty for my dog when I visited! If you’re in the mood for a more upscale dining experience, be sure to explore the valley’s many wonderful wineries! Some of my personal favourites include Luckett Vineyards and Bent Ridge Winery. If you happen to stop by Wolfville on a Saturday, check out the Farmer’s Market from 8:30 am-1:00 pm! You could easily find yourself wandering around the market for a few hours, exploring everything the vendors have to offer.
Once you’re full of good food, head over to Hennigar’s Farm Market in Wolfville! It’s a must-visit everytime I’m in the valley because I can’t seem to get enough of the gorgeous duck pond and adorable animals. They also have lots of souvenirs and goodies in the main building. Additionally, Hennigar’s is located conveniently close to a corn maze and multiple U-Picks! If the animals at Hennigar’s appeal to you, I highly recommend visiting Dragonfly Haven Therapeutic Farm. They have a wonderful variety of furry friends, and you’ll have the opportunity to enter many of their pens and even hold some of them! For instance, I think I got to hold a bunny, piglet, and guinea pig and got to pet donkeys, horses, and goats! Once you’ve enjoyed the furry friends at Hennigar’s and Dragonfly Haven, end your day with a classic outdoor experience. The Valley Drive-In Theatre is just a short drive away from Johnny’s Cookhouse (mentioned earlier) and offers a perfect blend of nostalgia and entertainment. Make sure to check out their website ahead of time to see what movies are playing at what time and enjoy a movie under the stars!
As you can see, the valley is brimming with activities from farm visits to delicious food to drive-in movies. So, gather your friends and family and make the most of this fall season!
