from The Rotary Club of Halifax North West
Welcome to the monthly newsletter from the Rotary Club of Halifax Northwest, where we share the club’s and Rotary’s news and activities with the communities we serve. The Rotary theme for November is the Rotary Foundation.
The Mission
At the 1917 Rotary convention in Atlanta, President Arch Klumph proposed setting up an endowment “for the purpose of doing good in the world”. That one idea, and an initial contribution of $26.50, set in motion a powerful force that has transformed millions of lives around the globe.
The Impact
The Rotary Foundation helps Rotary members to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty. In the over 100 years since that Atlanta convention, the Foundation has spent more than $4 billion globally on life-changing, sustainable projects. The Rotary Foundation transforms donations into service projects that change lives both close to home and around the world. • For as little as 60 cents, a child can be protected from polio. • $50 can provide clean water to help fight waterborne illness. • $500 can launch an antibullying campaign and create a safe environment for children. We are proud that 90.8 percent of donations to the Foundation go straight to supporting our service projects.
Charity Navigator, an independent evaluator of charities in the US, has consistently rated the Rotary Foundation in the top 1% of charities evaluated. The Foundation earned the recognition for adhering to sector best practices and executing its mission in a financially efficient way, demonstrating both strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency. Donors can therefore feel proud knowing that their gifts will allow them to make an impact in their communities and the world for years to come.” For more information go to: (Charity Ratings and Donor Resources | Charity Navigator
A large percentage of individual Rotarians make regular donations to the Foundation, as part of their commitment to “Service Above Self”. But we encourage anyone who wishes to alleviate the suffering in the world do so through a reputable and reliable organization that will ensure that donations will have the maximum impact for each dollar given.
