DUTCH VILLAGE ROAD REDEVELOPMENT TO START SPRING 2025
The redevelopment of Dutch Village Road has been rescheduled for April/ May 2025. Originally the project was going to start this fall at the Titus end of Dutch Village but now the plan is to start next spring at the Westerwald end. This is a $10 million project that has been in the planning stages for several years. The rebuild will include adding a much-needed sidewalk on the west side of Dutch Village, installation of standard bus stops (currently, some are just packed down dirt), conversion of the current nose-in parking spaces to safer parallel parking and the addition of street trees and landscaping.
Dutch Village Road will remain open to foot and vehicle traffic throughout the redevelopment. The project is anticipated to take about a year to complete and will be managed by Dexter Construction. More information is available on HRM’s website.
SETON RIDGE DEVELOPMENT UNDERWAY
Construction of the Seton Ridge mixed use housing development began in October near MSVU. Developed by Southwest Properties, this is a large, multi-year project. The first phase involves blasting granite to prepare water and sewer trenches. The blasts are monitored daily by HRM and a third party. Questions or concerns about blasting can be directed to K&M Inspection Consultants at 902-457- 3144 or info@kmins.ca. Blasting for the water and sewer lines is expected to continue for six months. There won’t be any blasting on weekends or holidays.
There is also work at the site to prepare the extension of Seton Road which will eventually connect the Bedford Highway and Lacewood Drive near Briarwood Crescent. The immediate plan for the Seton Road extension is to rough-in a construction road that will be ready early to mid-2025. This road will be used only by construction crews for the next few years. The Seton Ridge plan, approved in 2016, is to build about 2800 apartments and 160 single family homes.
