from The Rotary Club of Halifax North West
Welcome to the monthly newsletter from the Rotary Club of Halifax Northwest, where we share the club’s and Rotary’s news and activities with the communities we serve. This issue focuses on some of the charitable deeds we perform at Christmas time.
Spreading Joy and Kindness
Our club is particularly active during the Christmas season. Christmas of 2024 was no exception. We participated in the Spryfield Santa Claus parade and collected over $400 for the Chebucto Family Centre. We ran Rotary Wishes in collaboration with the Joe Howe Atlantic Superstore, whereby we set up a Christmas tree and adorned it with gift tags. Customers purchased gifts suggested on the tags and our club “elves” distributed them to disadvantaged people through various charitable organizations.
We are also aware that during the festive season, many families and individuals face financial challenges, making it difficult to enjoy a traditional Christmas meal. To help alleviate this, Spryfield community organizations like Chebucto Connections have become a vital source of support, offering much needed relief to those in need. Our club partnered with Chebucto Connections to deliver hampers filled with essential food items such as fresh fruit and vegetables, eggs, bread and festive treats like a gift card to a local grocery store.
The concept of delivering food hampers during Christmas is rooted in kindness and the spirit of giving. By partnering with local businesses, volunteers, and donors, Chebucto Connections and Halifax Northwest Rotary Club are able to harness the good will of several like minded organizations and individuals in the community.
Christmas food hamper delivery is a beautiful example of how small acts of kindness can make a significant difference. Through these efforts, we can try to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy a warm, fulfilling Christmas meal, no matter their circumstances.
It’s at Christmas time that we Rotarians particularly relish our motto of “Service Above Self”.
