from Councillor Janet Steele

311 MUNICIPAL SERVICES AND INFORMATION
As we emerge from winter, more potholes are starting to appear on our streets. To report a pothole, please call 311, complete the online form (halifax.ca/transportation/streets-sidewalks/paving-repair/report-a-pothole), or email contactus@311.halifax.ca with the precise civic address and one our public works team will work to have it filled.

For routine municipal matters such as potholes, transit concerns, traffic calming assessments, garbage collection, and much more, please call 311 or email contactus@311.halifax.ca. If your concern is not routine, feel free to copy me on your email.

When you contact 311, your request is logged and tracked to ensure it is followed up by the appropriate department. Please let the agent know if you would like to receive a follow up from staff regarding your service request.

For more information about how to get in touch, please visit our website: halifax.ca/311

SECOND UNIT INCENTIVE PROGRAM
HRM, with help from funding from the federal government’s Housing Accelerator Fund, has introduced a new grant program to help property owners create more housing options.

The Second Unit Incentive Program offers financial grants to help offset costs associated with building new secondary units.

Eligible residents can receive up to $12,000 to help reduce building expenses related to water and wastewater.

Applications will be open until June 1, 2026, or until funding is fully allocated. More information on how to apply can be found on HRM’s website: halifax.ca/about-halifax/regional-community-planning/housing-accelerator-fund/second-unit-incentive.
