By Lina Hamid, MLA Fairview-Clayton Park
Hi Friends, it is an honour to be writing as your Member of the Legislative Assembly for Fairview-Clayton Park.
Over the last six months I have enjoyed knocking on hundreds of doors and visiting with many amazing local businesses and organizations throughout the community. As a new MLA this has been an exciting and productive period of learning, listening, connection and action.
The first sitting of the 65th Legislative Assembly, Session 1 took place from February 14 to March 26. It was an action-packed sitting that raised significant concerns from the public over the province’s priorities, and it is unfortunate that we saw a shift in focus away from the immediate crises and issues like housing and health care that Nova Scotians voted for during the provincial elections. During this time I received hundreds of emails, read passionate op-eds, and attended rallies where Nova Scotians made their voices heard loud and clear. I was deeply moved and inspired to see this wellspring of civic engagement- this is democracy in action!
Although the Legislative sitting has ended, the work continues. My colleagues and I are committed to proposing and fighting for real solutions to address what matters most to Nova Scotians. Housing that people can actually afford, plans to attach more Nova Scotians to primary care, better access to pharmacare and help with power bills are urgent issues that we remain focused on addressing.
