Have you ever heard that overnight successes never actually happen overnight? Well, for iFoodEquipment the same is true. Started in 2011, the locally-owned company has grown from a one-man business to having nearly 50 staff in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, and they have just opened a large new kitchen supply store at 127 Chain Lake drive in Bayers Lake Business Park. But this “overnight” success really has roots back to 1987.
Dave Flanagan, founder, and president of iFoodEquipment, started Sun Bakery Equipment back in the late eighties, selling equipment to bakeries across the Atlantic provinces, from small independent bakeries to large chains like Sobeys and Superstore. But after a few changes in the industry, he had to start over again, and in 2011 Dave started iFoodEquipment with just him and his two sons, serving not only bakeries but all foodservice establishments.
Dave had the idea to sell across the country on an eCommerce site that his son built, an unheard of strategy in Canada at the time in an old-school industry. Now, only ten years later, this family-owned, Atlantic-Canada based company sells across the entire country, something almost no other Canadian restaurant equipment dealer has been able to do.
Over the past few years, they have brought on a number of experts in the industry. If you visit the store in Bayers Lake, you’ll likely be greeted by Donna Bastarache, who has over 40 years of experience in the foodservice industry and is known all across Nova Scotia for her expertise and friendliness.
The National Sales Manager, Mike MacNamara, said “I’ve been in this business a long time, I’ve worked with a lot of great people, but none better than the team we’ve assembled here at iFoodEquipment. Each one of them is a pro, and I’m proud to call them my teammates.”
Whether you’re a restaurateur or just looking for a new, professional-quality frying pan, the Bayers Lake store is fully-stocked with quality commercial kitchen tools and appliances, and with a helpful team ready to help you pick out the best deep fryer, or to help you design your entire restaurant from the ground up.
The grand opening of the store on September 22nd was attended by Mayor Mike Savage and many customers. Holding back some tears, Dave Flanagan said during his speech at the event that iFoodEquipment started with “pretty humble beginnings,” and that when people ask him whether this is a dream come true, he said it is not, “because I couldn’t have dreamt this.”
