Former Dalhousie students, Grace Evans BA’21 & Sarah Dobson JD’20 are getting set for the release of their new book: “On Their Shoulders: The Women Who Paved the Way in Nova Scotia Politics which is a compendium of all 50 women who have had a seat in the Nova Scotia Legislature since Confederation.
Their goal in writing the book was to raise money to establish a scholarship fund for Women in Politics. Future proceeds of $10,000 from the sale of their book, “On Their Shoulders,” will go directly towards the new Women in Politics Scholarship. The two recent grads want to support others to enter politics or study political science. They hope this book contributes to reducing the barriers that many women face when making careers decisions involving public service.
They say the book will be available throughout Nova Scotia, filling an important gap in our history, while inspiring young women to follow in their footsteps.
We just heard that the first two scholarships of $1,000 each have been awarded by Dalhousie to political science students Claire Belliveau and Charlotte Bourke. Watch for great things from these two!
