A Vision for Inclusive Growth, Housing Solutions, and Efficient Governance in HRM
Hello, my name is Andy Fillmore and I am running for Mayor of HRM. As a city planner I have the experience to take on the issues facing our municipality and make growth work for us, not against us.
I’ve worked in the municipal, provincial, and federal governments and I have a track record of bringing people together, finding common ground, and charting a clear path forward that everyone can get behind.
I want to apply my experience and knowledge to help our region from Sheet Harbour to Hubbards to Sackville to Fairview to continue to prosper and to be a place we are all proud to call home.
I will freeze the municipal tax rate to keep more money in the pockets of taxpayers at a time when the cost of living is a top concern. We will do a comprehensive value for money audit on the services to find efficiencies in how we deliver services to the citizens of HRM. Every dollar counts.
My priority would be to stop the approval of any new encampment sites in HRM, including not opening the nine sites recently approved by Council, which includes the Commons and Point Pleasant Park. We need to reduce the number of current sites, as we actively secure housing solutions for people. I would create a Central Intake System and a rapid response team of professionals all coordinating together on-the-ground to get people the help they need. Any tent appearing in undesignated areas would be removed within 24 hours of notification to maintain public spaces.
We need to build more homes and apartments that citizens can afford across HRM. I am a city planner and I know how to get this done.
Transit efficiency is crucial, especially considering the lack of access for suburban and rural areas and the unprecedented congestion of the downtown core. I will establish a rapid response line to address potholes and map high priority road repairs.
As your mayor, I will work with anyone and everyone to get the job done. I will build a coalition of people – rural, urban, and suburban, from across the political spectrum – to meet this moment together.
